Messenger AR Backgrounds are 360 degree background replacements used in Messenger video calling. These pushed new product and technology innovations delivering backgrounds that have gyroscopic movement making the environment feel more likeflike than ever before.
Problem Statement: The pandemic reshaped so much of how we experience the everyday world, from where we work, to how we shop, learn, and perhaps most important, how we communicate and connect with each other. Need to explore and invest in the product development of delivering new ways AR can help people feel a stronger sense of presence and togetherness when they’re otherwise physically apart, and video calling in particular, presents some exciting new opportunities.
Scope: Over the course of 1.5 years partnered with Creative Director to lead internal design and technology teams, external vendors, industry leading artist and creators and IP partners to build a content roadmap strategy that delivered new backgrounds every week.
Results: Launched over 100+ immersive backgrounds that delivered on multiple use cases, gave exposure to new and existing brands, and provided framework for Meta to explore larger screen and other immersive video calling experiences.
